Hot Weather Policy

Apologies to all swimmers and their families for the inconvenience of recent changes to training times and sessions due to the hot weather we have been experiencing.

Some parents have questioned why we cancel swim training in these conditions when the pool is the coolest place to be. The answer is that when training, swimmers work at high energy levels which increase the risk of exhaustion. This, combined with issues of hydration and sun exposure, is a recipe for disaster.

Also the welfare of our coaches and assistants on the pool deck (which is not shaded) and their exposure to the heat and sun must also be considered.

To ensure swimmers still have access to training, please take advantage of our later night sessions and morning sessions until Saturday 7th Feb, or until this heatwave passes. All times are listed in the Training & Events Calendar on this page.

Club Night

Please note that our first Club Night for 2009 has been rescheduled for Thursday 5th February from 7.00pm for all squads. This is your opportunity to participate in time trials to measure your improvement. These results are also used to determine some of the end of season awards. Please note that there are no other training sessions offered on this day.

A Subway dinner will be provided by the club for all swimmers attending.

Indoor Swimming Pool Survey

There is currently a community survey going around regarding the opportunity for the town to build a new indoor pool. A copy of this has been emailed to as many families as possible.

If you have not yet received one, please email and we will forward you a copy. Please fill this out and return it to one of our committee members as soon as possible. Make sure you have your say.

2009 Lapathon – Tuesday 10th February

This season’s Lapathon will be held on Tuesday 10th February in place of all other scheduled training sessions. This is our club’s major fundraising event of the season and all swimmers from all squads are encouraged to participate.

Swimmers will be given sponsorship collection forms at training from the 27th January. Please email if you require a copy of the form.

There will be an iPod on offer to the swimmer raising the most money, excluding the BHP Billiton Matched Giving receipts. There are also prizes (to be determined) for swimmers completing the most laps in the following categories;

  • Adult
  • Senior Squad (Sharks & Swordfish)
  • Junior Squad categories (Urchins, Dolphins, Stingrays)
All swimmers will receive a participation award.
